At the Legion of Bloom, our roots run deep in caring for and preserving the environment. Our environmental awareness is inspired by our founders, who have a combined 60+ years of experience in maintaining healthy soils in their own cannabis cultivation projects and a love for the great outdoors. When our five founders came together to form the LEGION, they knew it was necessary to have the health of the planet always be a consideration when making business decisions. It is no exaggeration that as a company, we value the planet and our environmental footprint as much as we value the quality of the cannabis experiences we craft. You cannot have quality cannabis products without a healthy environment. Our mission is to do everything we can as a company to provide a sustainable future for generations to come.
We hone in on the little things day-to-day and are always looking at big picture projects through a sustainability lens; our Environmental Stewardship Program and our Plastic Free Packaging are examples of our commitment to a sustainable future from a big picture standpoint. It is not always easy to do the right thing, but because we put sustainability first, it is easy to make the right decisions to create a more responsible company.
Doing the big things is very important, but the little things all add up to create a company culture where we empower our teams to lead the sustainability charge.
Here are some of the little things we do that add up to make a BIG difference.
Nitrile Glove recycling program through a partnership with Terracycle
All of the used nitrile gloves from our Manufacturing, Cultivation, and Distribution facilities are used to create picnic tables and park benches.
With all the safety measures that Covidien times have brought, our glove usage shot up in a major way.
With this recycling program, our used gloves are turned into items that give back to the community and last a lifetime. Turning single-use into forever-use items is the holy grail in sustainability. Any time you can do this is a huge WIN-WIN for the planet!
FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified paper and soy/veggie-based inks for all our printed marketing materials.
By ensuring that we only use the most environmentally and socially responsible paper and ink sources for all of the printed material that we create, our marketing assets have more than just an impact for our brand. They also have a lower impact on the planet.
100% post-consumer recycled FSC certified paper for all our document printing.
For compliance purposes, we have to print a lot of documents. From COA’s to invoices to manifests, they are all printed on 100% recycled paper.
Using 100% recycled copy paper instead of 100% virgin fiber paper saves:
100% of the trees
31% of the energy
53% of the water
39% less solid waste.
We use 100% recycled toilet paper in our offices and facilities from a company called Who Gives a Crap
Not only is their marketing and branding game so on point, but they use ZERO plastic in their packaging and no dyes or scents in their product.
They also donate 50% of their profits to build toilets in developing countries.
Now that is something to give a crap about:)
Company-wide paper, aluminum, and plastic recycling program
It seems basic, but you would be surprised how many organizations do not have a mandatory recycling program.
For us, this is the first step for getting buy-in from our teams. When they understand what can be recycled and what cannot, that topic alone could be its own blog post, it allows them to really get behind other sustainable initiatives in a major way.
When people understand their impact on the planet, they want to do more they want to do their part.
