Safe Access, Self Isolation, and Staying Safe and Healthy (Part 1)
by Troy Meadows LEGION's Co-founder
PART 1 SAFE ACCESS
I was driving back from Socal on Thursday the 12th when the decision was made for me, by the rest of my co-founders, to self isolate because of a launch Party that had taken place that Tuesday in LA for our new California Sauce cartridge and PAX pod product lines. The event was great and went off without a hitch, but with all the talk about the coronavirus spreading into the west coast the next day, we were taking no chances.
Then on Monday the 16th, SF dropped the bomb that they were going to implement a shelter-in-place order, forcing many area dispensaries to close their doors because cannabis businesses were considered nonessential to the community. Well, the community rallied, and within 24 hours, the Mayor of SF, London Breed, issued a statement that all licensed cannabis dispensaries could remain open to provide safe access to a plant that many people have come to depend on. "Cannabis is a needed medicine for many San Franciscans and dispensaries are allowed to continue operation" - @LondonBreed
Though I wish that this recognition was under better circumstances, this was a big win.
It made me think how far we have come in such a short time, from recreationally illegal just four short years ago to an essential need for the community seemingly overnight.
Ensuring that Californians have safe access to cannabis is something that I am very passionate about, having started cultivating cannabis over 17 years ago so that my friends and I would have access to all-natural clean cannabis.
That passion for the plant was the impetus for founding The LEGION of Bloom in the first place.
With the six surrounding counties, as well as Sonoma County, all following SF's lead in implementing shelter-in-place orders, the need for safe access for most of Northern California became the number one priority for us at the LEGION, as well as for many of our retail partners.
Brick-and-mortar retail locations sprang into action, implementing curbside pick up at their locations, and delivery services quite literally stepped up to answer the call from the cannabis community.
